Turks Matt Rose Wins VBL D-Bat Player of the WeekHarrisonburg Turks’ infielder Matt Rose was named the Valley Baseball League’s D-Bat Player of the Week for June 16-22. Rose, a rising junior at Georgia State University from Melbourne, Fl., is the fourth player to garner the weekly honor. He joins previous honorees Front Royals infielder Hunter Newman, New Market pitcher Jake Perkins and Staunton Braves outfielder Hunter Thomas. Rose was selected from 11 candidates nominated by coaches and VBL media relations staff.Last week, Rose was 9-for-22 with two doubles, one homerun, 6 RBIs, three runs scored, and one stolen base. In a week that saw the Turks tally four straight wins and surge to an 11-6 record, Rose had an on-base percentage of .435, a slugging percentage of .636, and a .409 batting average. He had multiple hits in four of five games. On the season, he ranks in the top five of the league in almost every major offensive category—first in hits (29), third in batting average (.408), and second in RBIs (15).Honorable Mentions
