HARRISONBURG, Va., June 22, 2015 – J.J. Bissell’s seventh inning home run and a fantastic seven-inning outing from Matt Hartman propelled the Harrisonburg Turks to a 2-1 victory over the Charlottesville Tom Sox at Veterans Memorial Park on Monday night.

2015 J.J. Bissell - Oklahoma CityBissell locked in on a 2-0 offering from Tom Sox starter Matt Jamer in the 7th inning, crushing the ball over the right field fence to break a 1-1 tie. The home run represented his third home run in four games, including a walk-off home run in the 12th inning against the Rebels last Friday.

With the win, the Turks win their third straight and move to 9-5 on the season while the Tom Sox’s record falls to 5-10. The Turks have defeated the Sox three times already this season, holding them to a single run in each game.

2015 Matt Hartman U. ArizonaMatt Hartman was fantastic after giving up an early lead in the first, scattering three hits over seven innings. The outing marks the first time a Turks pitcher has completed seven innings in a ball game this season.

Shane Billings, who came into the night third in the Valley League in batting average at .426, impressed once again with a 2-for-3 performance including a 5th inning RBI.

Charlottesville starting pitcher Matt Jamer also performed admirably striking out five over seven innings while only giving up two runs (one earned). Unfortunately for the Tom Sox, the run support just wasn’t there.

On a night where hits were hard to come by, Kevin Conway stood out for the Sox, going 2-for-3 with a walk and one run batted in.

The Turks return to the diamond tomorrow night when they travel to Staunton for a 7:30 p.m. start time against the Braves. The next home game is scheduled for Friday, June 26 against the Winchester Royals. See you there and go Turks!
