Winchester, VA – Rain delayed the start of the Turks at Winchester game by an hour. The Turks wasted no time getting the thunder rolling in their quest for four wins in a row.
Bryan Arias (Texas-San Antonio) clubbed a two-run in the 1st and a grand slam in the 2nd to stake the Turks to a 6-0 lead that they would not relinquish on the way to a 10-5 at Jim Barnett Park in Winchester.
The 14-hit, 10-run barrage was highlighted by a huge night for Arias, 3-6, 2 HR, 7 RBI and is the biggest breakout for any Turks batter this season. Bryan was not the only Turk that had a nice night at the plate. Austin Embler(UNCG) led off, setting the table with 3 hits and a walk. Tony Beam (UTSA) singled twice and also walked. Tevin Mitchell (Cal-Santa Barbara) banged two hits, including a double and walked.
Right hander Matt Young (Oklahoma City) (2-1) was solid on the hill for the Turks as well. Young threw 5 innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 earned run and fanned 8 batters. Jarred Taylor (New Orleans) and Eric Yankey (JMU) each threw 2 innings to finish it up.
The Royals were led by Alejandro Rivero (Broward College)and Alex Reynolds (Marshall) who each homered in the contest.
The suddenly hot Turks (13-14) are on the road again on Thursday against the Strasburg Express (12-13) at First Bank Park in Strasburg. Game time is 7:00. If you can’t make it to the game, tune in to the webcast! Kyle Gutshall will be on the call for the Express.
