Turks Split Doubleheader with Waynesboro

Waynesboro, VA- The Harrisonburg Turks were defeated in the first game of the doubleheader with the Waynesboro Generals, but were victorious in the second match-up.

The Generals won the first game 4-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Bryson Worrell singled to center field scoring Jackson Tate.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Generals extended their lead. In a bases loaded situation, Bryson Worrell scored after Christian Proffitt was walked. Kobe Lopez was then walked and Joseph Kinker scored. Connor Norby was walked and Ethan Cady scored.

The Turks used three pitchers on the night. Brandon Stephens started the game and got the loss on the night. He pitched in 5.2 innings getting a 5.03 ERA. Stephens allowed five hits, four earned runs, threw four walks and three strikeouts.

Mason Powell came in for Stephens in the bottom of the sixth. Powell walked three batters and was replaced by Matthew Larson. Larson pitched in a third of an inning receiving a 6.00 ERA.

The Turks won the second game 9-6. The Turks scored first in the top of the second inning. Aaron Levy singled to right field and Immanuel Wilder scored for the Turks.

The Generals responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Jackson Tate singled to left field and Wes Clarke tied the game.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Turks scored two more runs. Jed Bryant hit a bomb to center field getting the solo home run. Harry Brown then hit a sacrifice fly to center field and RJ Schreck came across too score.

In the top of the fifth inning, Jed Bryant hit a RBI double and scored Nick Zona. Immanuel Wilder than tripled and RJ Schreck, Josh Madole and Jed Bryant scored.

Waynesboro scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Carson Klepzig scored off a wild pitch. Kobe Lopez hit a home run scoring Connor Norby as well.

The Turks scored two runs in the top of the sixth. Cole McNamee scored off a McCann Mellett double. Josh Madole then doubled and Mellett crossed home plate.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Generals also scored two runs. Jackson Tate scored off another wild pitch. Carson Klepzig singled to left field and Bryson Worrell scored.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brandon Kunz struck out Jackson Tate to end the game.

Kunz came in for Eli Ellington in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kunz pitched in two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Kunz walked two hitters and threw three strikeouts receiving a 7.00 ERA.

Ellington started the game for the Turks. Ellington got the win on the night and posted a 2.79 ERA. He threw in five innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. Ellington walked two batters and threw six strikeouts.

The Turks (15-23) will face the Winchester Royals (17-21) at Jim Barnett Field. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
