The Turks welcome these two Colonel pitchers to take the mound at Veterans Memorial Park this summer.
Garrett Simpson made two appearances for Eastern Kentucky in the shortened 2020 season, posting a 3.00 ERA and allowing just four hits to 16 batters faced. The 6’0 155 pound right hander is a Kentuckian through and through, born in the small town of Mt. Washington, just outside Louisville. He went 10-2 with a 1.31 ERA at Bullitt East High School in 2019, en route to being named to the All-District Team and earning Region Player of the Year honors. In the summer of 2019, he played for the Henderson Flash, a member of the wooden-bat Ohio Valley League. Simpson’s father, Craig, played collegiate baseball at Ohio Wesleyan University
Bryce Travis, a 5’11 185 pounder, committed to Eastern Kentucky after a standout career at Madison Central HS in Richmond, Kentucky. A lefthander, Travis helped lead Central to an 11th Region title in 2018, and went 7-1 with 39 strikeouts in 30.2 IP in 2019. Academics are a big priority for him, as he plans on studying biomedical sciences with a pre-dental pathway at EKU.
