Logan McClure Named to All Things Valley League 2021 Top Starting Pitchers

#14 Starter: Logan McClure, Harrisonburg

Our 14th best starter, Harrisonburg’s Logan McClure, is listed at 5-11, but with his specs and hard fastball, he still paints an intimidating picture on the mound.

For the Turks, McClure went 2-0, 3.82 in 33 innings, with a .220 BAA, 1.121 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, and 10.1 K/9. Among pitchers surveyed for this list, he finished first in innings pitched, tied for fifth in strikeouts, ninth in WHIP, and tenth in BB/9. His best game was on June 26, when he fired six shutout innings at Covington, allowing only three hits while walking none and striking out six. He also pitched one inning in the All-Star game.

Attending West Virginia Tech, the civil engineering major went 1-1, 4.38 in 24 2/3 innings in 2019, 2-0, 7.24 in 13 2/3 innings in 2020, and 1-2, 6.69 in 35 innings in 2021. (By the way, the coaching staff at WV Tech is like a “Who’s Who” of former VBL players and coaches- the head coach is Lawrence Nesselrodt, who was the head coach in Staunton from 2002 to 2005, and won a title in Waynesboro in his stint from 2006 to 2008. The pitching coach is Luke Scherzer, who pitched in Harrisonburg in 2014 and 2018, and was an assistant coach in Harrisonburg for at least two seasons. Another assistant coach is Paul Ackerman, who has assisted Mike Bocock for at least two seasons, and whose son John played for Woodstock in 2019 and 2021.)
