The Harrisonburg Turks will begin it’s player introductions for the 2022 roster today. The Turks welcome four James Madison University Dukes to play at JMU Veterans Memorial Park this summer.
Sean Culkin, a rising senior right-hand pitcher at James Madison University, is a 6-6 215 pounder from Silver Spring, MD should feel comfortable on the mound at JMU Veterans Memorial Stadium this summer.In his redshirt freshman 2021 season Culkin made six appearances, tossed 5.2 innings with six strikeouts. Culkin was named to the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in the fall of 2021. His major is Sports Management and Recreation and minor in Business.
Before JMU he earned Second Team All-WCAC honors his senior year and earned WCAC Honorable Mention honors in 2018 at St. John’s College High School.
Sean has posted a 7.36 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched this spring for JMU.
Nick Hammer, a rising junior is a right-hand pitcher at James Madison University, is a 6-2, 195 pounder from Turnesville, NJ. The finance major transferred from LaSalle. As a freshman at LaSalle Hammer pitched 23 innings and had a 3-1 record.
Nick played at Washington Township high school. He was ranked 23rd among RHP in New Jersey and 55th overall in the state. As a senior he made First Team All-Conference, First Team All-South Jersey and Second Team All-State as a junior when he threw 44.2 innings with a 1.69 ERA while striking out 58. As a sophomore he had a 3-3 record. As a freshman he was 5-2 with a 2.24 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 50 innings of work. He was a Max Prep Freshman All-American, First Team All-New Jersey, First Team All-South Jersey, First Team All-Conference while his team won the county title.
Nick’s 2022 spring at JMU he’s produced a 3.68 era in 7.1 innings pitched, with 9 strike outs, 2 walks, and giving up 3 earned runs.
Evan Smith, a freshman right-hand pitcher at James Madison University is a 6-3 175 pounder from Morgantown, WVA. He is an industrial design major. Evan was an honor roll student at University High School. The Turks welcome Evan and his twin brother Casey to the 2022 pitching staff this summer.
Evan has had one outing at JMU so far this spring. He gave up one hit, one run, one earned run, a walk, and a strike out.
Casey Smith, a freshman right-hand pitcher at James Madison University is a 6-3 185 pounder from Morgantown, WVA. He is an industrial design major.
At University High School Casey was an honor student in the classroom and on the baseball field he earned All-State Special Honorable Mention in 2018, and First Team All-OVAC and All-State Honorable Mention in 2019
Casey has opened the 2022 JMU season posting a .286 batting average with 7 at-bats, 3 runs, 2 hits, 1 double, 1 RBI, 6 walks, only 1 strike out, and a .615 on base %.
