A pair from Georgia Southwestern State has signed with the 2022 Turks, Matthew Mamatas and Jacob McClure.
Matthew Mamatas is a 5-8 175 pound rising senior middle-infielder at Georgia Southwestern State University. The business major is from McDonough, Georgia.
As a sophomore in 2020 Mamatas played in all 20 games with 77 at-bats, seven runs, 18 hits, four doubles, 5 RBIs posting a .234 batting average. Mamatas excelled not only on the field but in the classroom as he was named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction and also to the spring Dean’s List.
Mamatas played in 53 games as a 2019 freshman. He had 213 at-bats, 27 runs, 59 hits, 13 doubles, 21 RBIs and posted a .277 batting average.
This spring Mamatas has contributed to the Canes posting a .250 batting average in 92 at-bats. He’s scored 19 runs, had 23 hits, 6 doubles, 9 RBIs, and drawn 13 walks.
Jacob McClure is a 5-0 195 pound rising redshirt junior who pitches for Georgia Southwestern State. The right-hander is Exercise Science and Wellness major from Marietta, GA.
McClure didn’t play his freshman year in 2020. However, he was named to the spring Dean’s List.
He attended Sprayberry High School. In his senior year, he posted a 3-4 record with a 1.64 ERA, a 1.646 WHIP in 27.1 innings pitched. He was successful both on and off the field; being named an All-Region Honorable Mention, Pitcher of the Year, and made the honor roll.
