The Harrisonburg Turks took victories in both games against the New Market Rebels in their doubleheader clash Saturday in New Market. The Turks won game one 13-6 and game two 7-0.

Game one
Game one saw Sam Schner (Florida Tech) score on a fielder’s choice in the top of the first to give the Turks the early lead.

The Rebels fired back with five runs in the bottom of the second — four of which were off a grand slam by Garrett Wallace (East Tennessee St).

The Turks didn’t let the four-run lead get them down as they notched five runs of their own in the top of the third. Michael Rosario (Miami) and Matthew Mamatas (Georgia Southwestern St) both notched RBI singles and Jaylon Lee (EMU) drove in a run on a double.

The Rebels tied the game at six in the bottom of the fifth on RBI single from Luke Lambert

The Turks turned up the heat again in the top of the sixth by racking up six runs — including a two-run home run from T.J. Williams (Notre Dame). The last score of the game was an RBI double from Rosario to give Harrisonburg the 13-6 win.

Pitcher Jordan Armstrong (Auburn) earned the win after pitching five innings and sitting four batters down on strikes.

Game two

The Turks led game two 1-0 all the way until the top of the seventh. Brady Gumpf (Notre Dame) drove in Rosario on an RBI single in the top of the fourth to give Harrisonburg the slight advantage.

The top of the seventh saw the Turks notch six runs — three of which were unearned following New Market fielding errors.

The Turks shutout the Rebels on seven runs, eight hits and one error. James Madison’s pitcher Casey Smith earned his third win of the season after pitching all seven innings, throwing five strikeouts and allowing only three hits.

Next up for the Turks is a makeup game against the Charlottesville Tom Sox Monday night at Veterans Memorial Park.
