Turks drop 9-1 contest to Covington on Dairy Night

Despite a sizeable crowd and plentiful festivities for the Turks’ annual Dairy Night, Harrisonburg could not stand against a relentless Covington (6-9) offense in a decisive 9-1 defeat. The loss is the third in a row for the Turks (8-7) following a 7-game win streak earlier in the season.

Harrisonburg’s lone run came in the first inning, when center fielder Anthony Paskell scored on a dropped fly ball in center field. Following that inning, the Turks collected just three hits and five walks across the rest of the game

The Lumberjacks opened their scoring in the third inning with singles from shortstop Quentin Jenkins, left fielder Spencer Williams, catcher Jackson Toberman and right fielder Chenar Brown, scoring three runs. Brown led the Lumberjacks with three RBI in the game. Covington scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings with the assistance of two Harrisonburg errors.

“It’s hard to win a ball game with three hits and making three or four errors,” head coach Bob Wease said. “All you can do is come back again tomorrow.”

The Turks will go on the road tonight to face the Culpeper Cavaliers. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
