As the college baseball regular season winds to a close, we take a look at some of the best performances from Turks players over the week.

On the Mound

Bryce Travis (Eastern Kentucky) made two scoreless appearances over the week for the Colonels, one as a starter and one in relief. Travis got the nod on the mound in EKU’s 3-2 victory over Bellarmine last Tuesday, allowing no runs and only one hit in 2.1 innings of work. He retired seven of the ten batters he faced. On Saturday, Travis was called out of the pen and pitched a clean seventh inning in another 3-2 triumph over Belmont. 

Season stats: 2-2, 4.70 ERA, 30.2 IP, 1 HR, .219 B/AVG

In the Batter’s Box

Caleb Bartolero (Troy) is heating up down the stretch, ending the week with a seven-game hitting streak. He recorded three hits and four RBI in the Trojans’ weekend series against Arkansas State, highlighted by Friday’s performance in which the junior catcher hit a solo home run in the fifth inning as part of a three-RBI day. Troy won the game 12-4 and took two out of three games from the Red Wolves.

Season stats: 45 GP/44 GS, .265 AVG, 4 HR, 31 RBI

Jake McCaw (Illinois State) recorded hits in all four games of a weekend series against Missouri State, hitting a collective 6-for-14 with two RBI, five runs scored, and three extra-base hits. In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the junior first baseman hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning that gave the Redbirds a much-needed insurance run, as they went on to win 3-1. On Sunday, McCaw went 3-for-4 and was just a homer shy of the cycle in a losing effort.

Season stats: 43 GP/39 GS, .357 AVG (1st), 2 HR, 22 RBI, .469 SLG

Conor Hartigan (James Madison) was the offensive catalyst in the Dukes’ weekend series victory over rival William & Mary, as he recorded seven hits and four RBI in three games. On Saturday, Hartigan went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk, while also stealing two bases. In Sunday’s contest, the senior outfielder keyed a late-rally as he delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth with JMU down to their final out, tying the game at eight. The Dukes went on to win in extra-innings, as Hartigan went 3-for-6 with three RBI on the afternoon. He improved his batting average to .383, the best mark on the team.
