Valley League Baseball > News For the Week of July 12 – July 18, 2004 Northern Division: The player of the week for the Nothern Division was Jeremy Terni (Southern Connecticut State) of the Winchester Royals. Terni batted .391 this past week and had nine hits including a double, two home runs and seven RBI. Terni is now batting .364 for the year with 48 hits, eight doubles, eight home runs and 43 RBI. Terni is among the top five in the league in batting average, hits, RBI, home runs and totatl bases. The pitcher of the week for the Northern Division was Jeff Dagenhart (William & Mary) with the New Market Rebels. Dagenhart made one starting apperance in the last week and had a 0.00 ERA to lower his total ERA to 3.00. This past week Dagenhart threw for six and two-thirds innings allowing only three hits, no earned runs and struck out 12. Dagenhart has now struck out 58 batters to make him third in the league in total strikeouts in just 39 innings of work. Southern Division: The player of the week for the Southern Division was Harrisonburg Turk C.J. Webb (Southwestern Illinois CC). Webb joined the Turks this past week and batted .389 with seven hits, a double, triple, home run and 10 RBI. In Webb’s first starting role he went 3-5 with a grand slam and six RBI against Covington and then went 3-5 the next night on July 17. The pitcher of the week for the Southern Division was Josh Schwartz (Rowan) of the Waynesboro Generals. Schwartz threw a complete game this past week and had a 0.00 ERA and allowed two hits, no earned runs, and fanned 12. Schwartz now has a 1.72 ERA and 54 strikeouts. Schwartz’s ERA is the lowest among pitchers in the league and his 54 strikeouts ranks fourth.
