The Harrisonburg TURKS, (now 3-1), bounced back after their loss to Loudoun, by defeating the Woodstock River Bandits, (now 2-3), 6-3 in 8 1/2 innings on play, on Thursday, June 10, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Harrisonburg. The TURKS pitching staff went the distance for the TURKS. Junior, Nick Pereria (1-0), the University of San Francisco, made his second appearance, and his first start for the TURKS, going six complete innings, giving up just one run, on four hits, striking out eight, and walking two. Pereria was credited with the win, while the save went to Freshman, Scott Brune (Iowa University), who came in to relieve Pereria to start the seventh, giving up two runs on five hits, striking out five, and walking none. Offensively the TURKS, were lead by centerfielder, Junior, Reggie Watson, (Indiana University) who went 2-3, with two RBI’s and three stolen bases. Kevin Koski added to the TURKS offense, by contributing two hits in three at bats, and a stolen base. A highlight came in the sixth inning, when TURKS second baseman, Junior, Corby Heckman (Indiana University), drove a pitch over the centerfield fence, for a homerun; the first of the TURKS 2004 season. The River Bandits put up nine hits including a homerun in the eighth inning, by Woodstock’s left fielder, freshman, Tim McKay (Winthrop College); however, they weren’t enough to secure a win. Woodstock’s Ryan Anderson (Junior, St. Petersburg Community College) was charged with the loss. The TURKS next game will be Friday, June 11 at Luray against the Luray Wranglers. Game time 7:30 P.M.
