6/23/2007 – Turk Tidbits
Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium proved to be a very moo-ving night. Our friends from the Rockingham Extension Agency and 4-H Club along with their Booster Night Sponsors; Dairy Farmers of America, Dairymen Specialty, Farm Credit,Horizon Organic,Rockingham New Holland, Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative, and Whitesel Brothers hosted a night full of free dairy products for all of our fans to enjoy. The Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Virginia Dairymens Association, Dale Gardner, was escorted out on the field by the Milk Princess and Maiden to throw out the first pitch. Mr. Gardner did such a good job that we asked him to stand by in case we needed him in relief. It was truly a night of fun for everyone. Curt Dudley, our PA Announcer since 1983, said that in all of his years with the TURKS that our "Milk Drinking Contest" was a first for him. We want to thank our Dairy Night Sponsors for their generous support for TURKS baseball! Of course that was a great time but the icing on the cake was to watch our Harrisonburg TURKS add another W in the win column over the always competitive Luray Wranglers 6-1. Harrisonburg residents, if you haven’t been out to a TURKS game this season you are missing out on some great baseball games. The TURKS players are working hard and winning games that have put them in first place in the Valley Baseball League with a record of 13-3. The TURKS have set their goal of bringing the Jim Lineweaver Championship Trophy back to Harrisonburg for what looks to be the last season in the existing Veterans Memorial Stadium before James Madison University starts construction on a brand new facility. We need all of you to come out and pack the stands and cheer these fine young collegiate ball players on to victory. The TURKS travelled to Haymarket on Saturday night to beat the Senators 6-2. Tonight is a match up at home between the first place TURKS (13-3) and second place Waynesboro Generals (12-6). Game time is 7:30 p.m.
