OCU Star Teammates Named to All Conference Team

Oklahoma City, OK OCU shortstop Bobby Spain and outfielder Ryan Rachal were named to the All-Sooner All Conference Team. Spain, a junior from Norman, Okla., is hitting .422 with 20 home runs and 75 RBIs. Spain led the SAC in hits and doubles and tied for the RBI lead in the regular season. Rachal, a senior center fielder from Norman, Okla., is hitting .391 with 15 homers, 67 RBIs and 18 steals. Rachal led the SAC with eight triples. Spain and Rachal were a part of the Oklahoma City foursome (Brandon Harrigan and David Dennis)that played for the Harrisonburg TURKS in the Valley Baseball League during the 2006 summer. Spain won the team’s Batting Champion Title and the Most Valuable Player Award. He was also on the VBL All Star Team representing the TURKS. Spain, a sophomore shortstop from Norman, Okla., hit .357 with three home runs and 20 RBIs for the summer. Spain posted team-high figures in slugging percentage (.476) and on-base percentage (.446) during the regular season. Entering the playoffs, Spain hit safely in seven consecutive games. He had an eight-game hitting streak earlier this season. Spain had 17 multi-hit games. Rachal had a great summer with the TURKS as he made his presence known with a .307 batting average in 153 at bats, 22 runs scored,47 hits, 28 RBI’s, 10 doubles, 3 triples and 1 HR.
