HARRISONBURG, Va. (7/26/05) "The Harrisonburg Turks of the Valley Baseball League have received a shot in the arm lately from a pair of hurlers out of the University of Arizona baseball program. Rising senior right-hander Sean Jarrett (Limon, Colo.) and rising junior left-hander Brad Mills (Mesa, Ariz.) have been dominate has the regular seasons comes to a close in the NCAA-sanctioned circuit. Jarrett, who will play his senior year at Oral Roberts University, fashioned a nine-inning no-hitter to guide the Turks (24-19) to 3-0 victory against visiting Waynesboro Sunday (July 24) night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. He faced only three batters above the minimum, all of which reached by errors. Jarrett fanned 11 in the process while upping his record to 4-1 and lowering his earned run average to 2.31 in 39 innings. He also won his previous start, a 4-2 verdict on July 18 against Front Royal. He scattered eight hits, fanned four and walked two in seven innings against the Cardinals. Mills has been the master of the strikeout in his last three starts. He made 10 Woodstock River Bandits whiff through seven frames on July 11 in a 4-2 Harrisonburg win. On July 17 against division-leading Covington, Mills struck out 14 and gave up just three hits in eight innings of a 4-0 shutout. He went the distance in a 2-1 win July 23 at Staunton, sitting down 15 Braves on strikeouts while allowing seven hits. For the year, his ERA sits at 1.62 with 62 strikeouts and 15 walks in 39 innings pitched. The Turks have one regular-season game remaining, July 26 at Waynesboro. The divisional playoffs are currently scheduled to begin July 30 at the top two seeds in each of the two divisions.
