06/27/2008 – Turks Tidbits
Written By Andy May, Broadcasting Intern Bridgewater College Harrisonburg- Chase Sonen pitched the Turks out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the top of the seventh inning to preserve a 2-0 win for Harrisonburg over the New Market Rebels. After Chris Chapman (Bethune-Cookman) pitched six shutout innings, Sonen (St. Joseph’s) came in and closed the door on the Rebels. Chapman worked his way out of many tight situations striking out two and walking five batters earning the win, but Sonen came in and struck out four in three innings to end the game and earn his first save of the season. The Rebels started the game off with two men on base, but were unable to knock them around to score. Mike Mooney (Florida) knocked a single in the first inning, but that was his only hit of the ball game going 1 for 3. Will Davis (Pennsylvania) led the Rebels going 2 for 4 with two singles. The Turks offense was led by B.J. Wheeler (Oklahoma State) going 1 for 2 with a double and the Turk’s first run. Michael Precise (Troy) knocked Drew Johnson (San Francisco) in during the seventh inning to put the Turks up 2-0. Precise finished the night going 1 for 3 with an RBI. The Harrisonburg Turks (8-14) travel to Covington to take on the Lumberjacks (13-8) while the New Market Rebels (7-16) travel to Winchester to take on the Royals (13-8).
