07/01/2008 – Turks Tidbits
Written By Andy May, Broadcasting Intern Bridgewater College Harrisonburg- The game was not exactly a coach’s dream, but Coach Wease is happy with the 2-1 win over the Woodstock River Bandits. The Turks and River Bandits left a combined 20 players on base, unable to knock them around to score due to outstanding pitching and defensive plays. Michael Precise (Troy) wasted no time and belted a home run to put the Turks up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Precise was 1 for 3 on the night. The game turned into another pitchers duel as the River Bandits’ Drew Buonanni (Florida Tech) faced off against the Turks’ Garrett Parker (Oklahoma City). Buonanni pitched five innings giving up five hits and striking out three while Parker pitched seven innings allowing nine hits and striking out four. The River Bandits answered back in the fourth inning when Mike Marshall (Standford) came across the plate to score. Marshall went 2 for 4 with two singles and a run. In the bottom of the fourth inning B.J. Wheeler (Oklahoma City) hit a double and set the table for Michael Pericht (St. Joseph’s). Pericht hit an RBI single to put the Turks up for good. Wheeler was 3 for 4 with two singles and a double while Pericht’s only hit of the night was the key RBI single. Garrett Parker earned the win tonight improving his record to 1-2 while Chase Sonen earned his second save of the season. The Harrisonburg Turks (9-15) host the Haymarket Senators (9-14) tomorrow night while the Woodstock River Bandits (10-14) host the Staunton Braves (11-13).
