Turks Get their Biggest Win of the Season

Winchester, VA- The Harrisonburg Turks got the victory on the road against the Winchester Royals defeating the home team 17-6. A couple of big innings allowed the Turks to get the win on the night.

Harrisonburg struck first scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. McCann Mellett singled to left field and both Tom Caufield and Aaron Levy scored. Jed Bryant also singled to left field and McCann Mellett scored.

The Royals responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Aaron Palensky singled to left field and Eliel Martinez put the Royals on the board. John Dyer then hit a single to left field as well and Drenis Ozuna came across to score. Justin Taveras hit an RBI single to left field and Aaron Palensky scored.

The Turks scored four more runs in the top of the fourth inning. After an error from the Royals’ shortstop, RJ Schreck came across to score. Tom Caufield then hit a triple to center field scoring both Immanuel Wilder and Aaron Levy. McCann Mellett then grounded out and Tom Caulfield scored for the Turks.

The Royals scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. Eliel Martinez scored for Winchester off a wild pitch.

The Turks subbed in Cole McNamee for starting pitcher Liam McDonnell in the bottom of the sixth inning.

McDonnell pitched in five innings and got the win on the night. McDonnell allowed nine hits, four earned runs and received a 4.09 ERA. He walked three batters and threw three strikeouts.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Turks scored eight runs on four hits. Jed Bryant got a base hit and scored Tom Caufield. With the bases loaded, Jack Roberts was walked and McCann Mellett scored. Josh Madole then crossed home plate off a wild pitch. Caston Peter singled to left field scoring Jed Bryant and Jack Roberts. Aaron Levy then doubled to center field scoring Caston Peter, RJ Schreck and Immanuel Wilder.

In the top of the eighth inning, Harrisonburg scored one more run. Jed Bryant hit a home run getting his fourth of season.

Winchester also scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Aaron Palensky hit a single to left field and Grant Thompson scored.

The Turks made another pitching substitution in the bottom of the eight. Cole McNamee was replaced by Austin Lynch.

McNamee pitched in two innings allowing one hit and two walks. He threw two strikeouts and received a 3.07 ERA.

The Turks extended their lead in the top of ninth. Josh Madole singled to right field and Immanuel Wilder crossed home plate for the Turks.

Justin Taveras scored for the Royals in the bottom of the ninth, but it was the Turks who left with the win.

In the bottom of the ninth, Nick Zona replaced Austin Lynch on the mound. Lynch pitched in one inning and got a 4.50 ERA. Lynch allowed one hit, one earned run, walked two hitters and threw two strikeouts.

Zona also pitched in one inning and received a 4.50 ERA. Zona threw one strikeout and walked two batters. He allowed one hit and one earned run.

The Turks (16-23) will travel to Gypsy Hill Park to take on the Staunton Braves (17-19). First pitch will take place at 7:30 p.m.
