Charlottesville, VA- In a close game, the Harrisonburg Turks were unable to get the victory on the road against the Charlottesville TomSox. Despite out-hitting the TomSox, the Turks were defeated 3-2.
The TomSox made their mark early in the game scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Trey McDyre doubled to center field and Cayman Richardson scored. Christian Hlinka then grounded out and Thomas Francisco scored for the TomSox.
The game went scoreless until the top of the eighth inning when the Turks scored to make the game 2-1. RJ Schreck hit a solo home run to put Harrisonburg on the board.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Turks made a pitching substitution. Jacob Edwards came in for starting pitcher Alex Lozado.
Lozado pitched in seven innings receiving a 6.35 ERA. He gave up four hits, two earned runs, threw no walks and five strikeouts.
Charlottesville scored one more run in the bottom of the eight. With the bases loaded, Trey McDyre was walked and Alex Fidje-Johnson scored for the TomSox.
Also, in the bottom of the eight, Liam McDonnell replaced Jacob Edwards on the mound for the Turks.
Edwards allowed one earned run and walked three batters. He posted a 3.55 ERA.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Turks attempted a comeback. Josh Madole scored for the Turks after an error by Charlottesville’s third baseman making the score 3-2.
Tom Caufield then struck out swinging to end the game.
Liam McDonnell pitched in one inning and received a 3.18 ERA. He walked one hitter and got one strikeout.
The Turks (14-22) will face the Waynesboro Generals (25-10) in a doubleheader at Kate Collins Field starting at 5:30 p.m.
