The Irish are Coming to Town

Another summer ball pipeline established by another Turk alumnus is sending players to Harrisonburg for the 2022 season. Notre Dame Coach Link Jarrett played shortstop on the 1992 Harrisonburg Turks as a sophomore from Florida State. Since that time he and Coach Wease have remained friends. As Coach Jarrett has built his coaching career he has sent players to the Turks from Flagler, Auburn, UNC Greensboro, and Notre Dame. In three seasons Jarrett has taken Notre Dame from the middle of the pack of the ACC to the top of national polls sitting at #1 right now. Coach Jarrett is sending three of his Fighting Irish to Harrisonburg for the 2022 season; Brady Gumpf, T.J. Williams, and Jackson Dennies.

T.J. Williams, is a 5-11 185 pound outfielder. The rising junior is a finance major from Germantown, MD.

Williams played in twelve games during his 2021 freshman season. He posted a .333 batting average. He played summer ball for the Kalamazoo Growlers in the Northwoods League.

Williams graduated from Georgetown Prep High School. As a senior, he was named to Second Team All-Region by Perfect Game and was ranked #2 outfielder and #5 player from Maryland by Perfect Game. He led the team his junior year with a .454 average and a .432 his sophomore year.

Williams has been productive for the Irish this spring. He’s posted a .342 batting average in 38 at-bats, scoring 12 runs, 13 hits, 1 double, 2 triples, 1 home run, knocked in 7 RBIs, drawn two walks, struck out 5 times, and stolen 2-2 bases.

Brady Gumpf, is a 6-1 200 pound right-hand outfielder. The rising junior is from South Bend, TN. He plans to major in Management Consulting.

Gumpf didn’t play his first season with the Fighting Irish. He played summer baseball with the 2021 Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. He posted a .290 batting average in 28 games, 69 at-bats, hitting 1 double, 1 triple, 3 home runs, with 13 RBIs and 18 walks.

Gumpf lettered in baseball for four years at St. Joseph High School. He was named to the First Team All-Conference in 2019 and Second Team All-Conference in 2018. He was an honorable mention for All-State in both years.

This spring Gump has seen 5 at-bats, scored a run, had 1 hit, 1 double, and knocked in 3 RBIs with only 1 strikeout.

Jackson Dennies is a 6-4 235 pound right-hand pitcher. The rising junior is from New Orleans, LA. He is a management consulting major.

Dennies went to Archbishop Rummel High School. He earned four varsity letters in baseball and two in football. In 2017 he was an Honorable Mention New Orleans Advocate All-Metro Team.  In 2019 he was named to the NOLA All-Metro and New Orleans Prep All-District Team. Dennies was a member of the National Honors Society, the Ambassador Team, Campus Ministry, and the Big Brother Program. He also earned the President Award in 2020, was senior class president, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Jackson returns to the Turks for his second summer on the mound at JMU Veterans Memorial Park. He pitched 19.1 innings of relief ball. He had a 1-2 record with 1 save.

This spring Jackson is pitching in relief for the Irish. He’s made 3 appearances on the mound for 4 innings striking out 5 and posting a .00 ERA.

We welcome these three Fighting Irish to Veterans Memorial Park for an exciting summer of baseball with the Turks.
