03/03/2008 – Turks Tidbits

Written By Graham Brock James Madison University Sports Management Intern With the college season just getting under way, some of the ’08 Turks are showing their great play early. The Turks from Oklahoma City University are coming out of the gates hard. Infielder Landon Camp is batting .327 with 4 home runs already. He also has racked up 16 runs batted in. Outfielder David Mann is batting .352 with 3 home runs along with 9 runs batted in thus far. Garrett Parker, a returning RHP from the ’07 Turks team, has been pitching very well so far during his debut season as one of the OCU Stars, with an ERA of 1.08 and 13 strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work. He also has 2 saves on the year. Parker transferred to OCU this fall from Howard University. A few other Turk pitchers have been pitching extremely well. Eric Thomas of Bethune Cookman University started off the season with a 1-0 record. His one outing was very impressive with 7 innings of work only giving up 1 hit and no runs. Tim Wheeler, of Troy University, a returning RHP from the ’06 and ’07 Turks teams, is also 1-0 with 6 innings of work only allowing 4 hits. He did not give up a run during his first appearance either. With some of the numbers these Turks are putting up, there is a great deal of excitement for the upcoming season.
