Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., July 21, 2007 – The Harrisonburg Turks pulled through for an important win as they beat the third place Luray Wranglers last night. First baseman David Dennis (El Cajon, Califhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Oklahoma City) was the big hitter of the night going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored. The opposing team scored first once again last night, this which has become the trend with most Turk home games. After scoring 2 runs in the top of the second, Harrisonburg answered in the bottom of the third scoring 1 run and then again in the bottom of the fourth scoring 3 more. Luray would score 1 more run in the top of the seventh to threaten the Turks’ 4-2 lead, but Harrisonburg would come around once again in the bottom of the eighth to score 2 more runs to seal the deal. Along with Dennis’ two runs scored, one in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the eighth, designated hitter Andrew Franco (Destin, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Appalachian State) also scored two runs, one in the bottom of the fourth and another as well in the bottom of the eighth. Center fielder Jon Moore (Mokena, Illhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Purdue) and right fielder Robert Taylor (Ingram, Texas/Ark-Little Rock) each scored a run as well, Moore in the bottom of the third and Taylor in the bottom of the fourth. Starting pitcher Ashur Tolliver (Sherwood, Arkhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Ark-Little Rock) improved his record to 3-0 last night, after pitching just over six innings, scattering five hits while striking out 10. Closer Garrett Parker (Duncanville, Texas/Howard) came in to finish the game for the Turks’ earning his fifth save of the season. The Turks’ will look to pick up another win as they travel to Haymarket tonight for a 7:30 start. They will be back at home on Monday night against Waynesboro and Tuesday night against Fauquier.
