Following Brian Yueng and Josh Karr from the 2012 team and all-star Dodson McPherson and Justin Sommers from the 2011 incarnation of the Turks, three Wingate Bulldogs will be incorporated into this summer’s roster.
Sophomore outfielder Thomas Spitz started all fifty-five games as a freshman batting .298 in 225 at bats. Spitz knocked 67 hits with 10 doubles, 7 triples and 8 home runs with 31 RBIs. He stole 9 out of 11 bases for the Bulldogs. Spitz also played on the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore catcher Josh Clark started in 45 of the 49 games during his freshman year at Wingate. Clark finished third on the team with a .345 batting average. He had a homer, 12 doubles and 27 runs scored on the year. He had multiple hits in all five SAC Tournament games, going 11-for-23 with four doubles, three RBI and four runs scored to earn All-SAC Tournament team honors.
Sophomore right-hand pitcher Brett Morgan will join his two teammates on the 2013 Turks roster. Morgan made 20 appearances out of the Wingate bullpen during his freshman season, going 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA and one save. Morgan worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings against LMU to earn the save. His first collegiate win came in the SAC Tournament against Carson-Newman, when he worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings without allowing a run, striking out five.
